Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah is a powerful, funny, and deeply moving memoir about growing up during apartheid in South Africa. With his trademark humor and honest storytelling, Trevor Noah shares the extraordinary experiences of his childhood and the challenges of growing up in a society divided by race, class, and inequality.

Born to a Black South African mother and a white Swiss father at a time when their relationship was forbidden by law, Trevor’s very existence was considered a crime under apartheid. His childhood was shaped by a complicated world where identity, family, poverty, racism, and social divisions influenced everyday life.

At the heart of the book is Trevor’s relationship with his mother, a strong and determined woman whose faith, courage, and unconventional approach to life had a profound influence on him. Through a collection of personal stories, Trevor reflects on his childhood, family, friendships, school life, and experiences navigating a changing South Africa.

Born a Crime combines humor with powerful observations about race, identity, family, resilience, and survival. The result is an unforgettable memoir that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
